Suspicious Package at Bertucci's Ruled 'Experimental Medical Device'
A man with Parkinson's disease left the device behind after dining at the restaurant
BEVERLY – A suspicious package found at the Bertucci's on Enon Street Monday afternoon was determined to be an "experimental medical device," Beverly police said in a statement.
Members of the Beverly Police Criminal Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshall's Office interviewed a Gloucester resident connected with the incident. According to police, the man, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, "created the homemade device to help alleviate his pain."
The man realized he had accidentally left the device behind after dining at Bertucci's when he saw a news report on the incident, police said. Monday's discovery forced the evacuations of several nearby businesses.
