Suspicious Smiley Face Drawn on Car

The following is an excerpt from the Beverly Police log: 

Friday, Nov. 9

  • At 3:19 p.m. police were made aware of an 'erratic driver' who reportedly threw a cup of coffee out his window at a passerby. Police spoke to the driver, who denied throwing anything. He received a verbal warning. 
  • A man was struck by a car on River Street at 5:01 p.m. He was transported to the hospital. 
  • Police were made aware of a smiley face drawn on a man's car window while the vehicle was parked in his driveway on Dartmouth Street at 7:22 p.m. The man told police he reported it because his family has been victim to the area's peeping tom and neighbors said they believed this was his way of 'leaving his mark.' Police said the smiley face looked like 'Stewy' from Family Guy. 
  • A man was struck by a vehicle on Rantoul Street at 11:31 p.m. He suffered no injuries and refused medical treatment. 
  • A vehicle was vandalized on Rantoul Street at 11:59 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 10

  • A gunshot was reported at a house party on West Dane Steret at 3:03 a.m. Police said a small group of five or six people were in the apartment, and there was no basis for a gunshot. 
  • A vehicle was reported broken into on Lovett Street at 9:06 a.m.
  • A 4:16 p.m. police were called to Judson Street on report of a drunk male sleeping on the sidewalk . 
  • Police were called to Story Ave at 8:33 p.m. on report of loud yelling from a residence. Police spoke to the teenager brother and sister who were home, but they denied a problem. 
  • At 9:18 p.m. an officer noticed the garage to the DPW building was opened. Police contacted the city electrician and did a walk through of the building, but all seems in order. 
  • Police were dispatched to the North Beverly train station at 11:08 p.m. on report of the sound of breaking bottles. Police discovered several broken bottles on the train platform, but no one was in the area. 

Sunday, Nov. 11

  • A neigbor dispute over parking was reported on Front Street at 4:24 p.m.
  • A home break-in was reported on Pearl Street at 6:20 p.m.
  • At 7:23 p.m. police arrested Mathew Birch, 19, of 12 Pickett St., on charges of threatening to commit a crime and two counts of assault. 
  • Police were called to Northwood Road on report of 'four suspicious teens sitting on the lawn'. When police arrived at 7:47 p.m., they were not there. 
  • A car window was smashed out on Cabot Street at 9:52 p.m.
  • A group of teens were reportedly bothering a customer at CVS at 11:07 p.m.
