Weekly Recycling to Begin in Beverly This Summer

New recycling contract effective July 1, 2013.

Beverly Mayor Bill Scanlon called the city's new recycling schedule 'a convenience for everyone and a good thing for the planet,' at Tuesday night's State of the City address.

With the recently bid trash collection contract, the city will begin weekly recycling on the first of July.

Under the terms of the new contract, the upper limit on trash to be put out for collection has been reduced from 10 bags or barrels to five, which Scanlon noted 'is still a more generous allowance than what is permitted by most communities'.

"Our progress on recycling has been remarkable and I thank you for that," Scanlon said in his address. "With weekly recycling we expect to do even better."
