Falmouth Adds Three Half-Days for Most Elementary Students
On Jan. 27, March 24, and June 9 of this year, students in grades pre-K through grade 4 will complete the second half of the day at home.
FALMOUTH, MA —The Falmouth School Committee created three half-days in the spring 2021 calendar at its meeting Tuesday night. Students in pre-k through fourth grade will learn in-person for half the day on Jan. 27, March 24, and June 9. They will then return home to complete the school day asynchronously.
“It’s coming up, Jan. 27, so we just want to make sure that our families get notice of that as quickly as possible,” School Committee President Kelly Welch said at the meeting. "I know our schedules get crazy and we want to give everybody time to plan.”
The addition of three half-days was part of the Falmouth Educator's Association memorandum of understanding with the School Committee, which was signed this week.

"It was an issue surrounding collaboration among and between teachers, teacher assistants and related service providers needed to ensure that all teachers had the time to create, manage, and deliver the caliber and quality of education the community of Falmouth deserves, said Lori Andrade, the president of the Educator's Association.
"Teachers all wanted to be able to meet these changes in instructional approaches and techniques to the best of their abilities to continue to be the effective, passionate educators they have been prior to these changes that are afforded to teachers at grades 5-12."
