Falmouth Officials Holding Opioid Addiction Forum

The forum will discuss best practices for handling drug addiction. It will feature a Portuguese doctor who helped create its drug policy.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth officials will host a free community forum Saturday about opioids and addiction.

The virtual forum includes discussions with the town's elected representatives, public safety officials and representatives from addiction treatment facilities. Dr. João Goulão, of Portugal, will serve as a guest speaker for the forum.

Goulão is a physician and Portugal's director general of the Service for Intervention on Addictive Behaviors and Dependence. He's one of the architects of the country's drug policy that treats possession of small amounts of illegal drugs as a health issue, rather than a criminal offense.
