Falmouth Public Schools Switch To Fully Remote Learning
School officials said a week of fully remote learning is necessary because of Falmouth's rising cases and holiday gatherings.
FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth Public Schools have temporarily shifted to remote only learning because of the worsening state of the coronavirus pandemic in town, school officials announced.
From Monday, Jan. 4 to Friday, Jan. 8, all students from prekindergarten to grade 12 will take part in virtual learning. All sports were also postponed until Jan. 11.
Superintendent Lori Duerr said in a letter to parents that the district received increased reports of gatherings, house parties and traveling over winter vacation. This also forced Falmouth High School to quarantine the girls' basketball team.

"The number of COVID-19 positive cases are still rising in Falmouth, and our positivity rate has reached 3.93% and is likely to be higher this week," Duerr said. "While we do not want to interrupt our students’ school routines, we have to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safest school community we can."
Jennifer Reissfelder, the district's public health nurse, said she needs to be aware of all staff and students experiencing COVID-19-like symptoms, who have been identified as close contacts of someone who tested positive. You can reach out to her at jreissfelder@falmouth.k12.ma.us or 774-392-6477.
