The Falmouth Art Center is offering a range of new art classes for beginners next session.
New classes in oil painting, watercolor and pastel are all targeted specifically for beginners to mediums.
Art center executive director Laura M. Reckford noted that as the pandemic has lingered, people are looking for new hobbies, with learning to paint being popular.

Coming up this month are two beginner photography workshops with Lisa Jo Rudy: “Introduction to the iPhone Camera” and “Intro to iPhone Image Editing.” Both are one-time, two-hour afternoon workshops on Zoom. The first is on Friday, December 11, and the second one is scheduled for Friday, December 18.
In January, Betsy Payne Cook will teach a new class called “Beginner and Refresher Pastel” on the Zoom online platform. The class will focus on techniques to create paintings full of energy, texture and color. Ms. Cook will also continue to teach her intermediate pastel class on Zoom.

Artist Marian Colman will teach a three-day online workshop called “Getting Started with Watercolor” on January 8, 9 and 10. Covering the basic tools and techniques, the workshop is designed for those who have been intrigued by watercolor and would like to get started.
Bill Noble’s “Beginner Oil Painting” will continue to meet in person on Tuesday evenings. Mr. Noble devotes the first of the six classes to advising students on what paints, papers and brushes to purchase. When one of his students requested that he add a Level 2 class for those who have taken the course and want to continue their instruction, he agreed. That Level 2 class, also in person, is now on Thursday evenings beginning in January.
The art center is offering an online printmaking class for all levels to try at home called “Kitchen Table Printmaking,” which uses linoleum, stamps and white-line printing to create greeting cards, bookplates and other prints. The Tuesday evening class begins January 5.
For weavers at all levels, the art center is offering an online three-session workshop with Jodi Colella called “Weaving Without a Loom,” which gives people a way to enjoy this calming art form without leaving the house. The workshop starts January 11.
The next art center session begins the week of January 4 with a range of in-person painting classes with Dan Hanagan as well as online classes with Andrew Kusmin, Claudia Smith-Jacobs, Susan Jensen, Diana Lee and Mellissa Morris covering watercolor, painting, drawing and collage.
The January session also includes in-person clay classes.
For children, Alicia Buccino’s “Art Quest” is an in-person, after-school class on Tuesdays for ages 6 to 10. Kim Sheerin teaches an in-person “Teen Wheel” class after school on Mondays. The art center is also continuing with in-person early release art classes for kids, with the next one on Tuesday, December 8.
