'Splash of Color' Features 91 Works By Local Artists
The Falmouth Art Center's new exhibit in the Hermann Gallery, "Splash of Color," is more like a tidal wave of hues.

There are 91 works by 67 local artists; all of the works celebrate the theme of color.
The show is on display at the art center through April 26.
Whether it is Carole Raymond’s oil painting “Tuscany,” which focuses on the reddish hues unique to that region of Italy, or the still life “Energized” by East Falmouth artist Patty Calkins-Martin, the works cover a wide variety of subject matter.

Well-known artist Jane Lincoln of East Falmouth, who specializes in color theory, presents an intriguing acrylic “Commanding Cadmium,” a brainteaser of a painting, that seems to reflect on how colors react side by side.
In a more traditional way, Mashpee artist Bill Noble’s “Paris Café” captures a street in that famous city, whereas East Falmouth artist Jim Gordon’s acrylic painting, “Down By the Sea,” shows off this artist’s skill at illustration.

There are a variety of mediums represented. “Blue Cow” by Jacqueline Lee of Pocasset is a rug-hooking piece in which the title character is front and center. A dark pink glass box by Frances Merton of Centerville reflects the lights in the room. East Falmouth artist Tina Newcombe’s
mixed-media piece “Red Door” is a tiny house that looks ready for move-in day.
The Falmouth Art Center is at 137 Gifford Street. The galleries are free and open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM, and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM.
