FRAMINGHAM, MA — Both Framingham's third and fourth quarter tax bills will be sent to property owners this month, a glitch that's due to a budget deficit discovered after the city set the 2021 tax rates last year.

The third quarter bills were supposed to hit mailboxes by early in 2021. But in December, the state declined to certify Framingham's 2021 tax rates due to a $2.5 million deficit in the water and sewer enterprise funds. It took until the end of February for the City Council to agree on a fix for the deficit.

The third quarter bills were mailed on Wednesday, and the fourth quarter bills will go out on March 31. Both bills are due by May 3, but property owners have been free to pay third quarter bills for months — and can do so right now.
