5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: February 18

One chain restaurant has its grand opening and a local diner re-opens this morning.

1. The Deluxe Depot Diner is back open for business this morning.

The downtown Framingham diner had to close abruptly on Monday night around 6, when a pipe burst in its lobby. The Framingham Fire Department responded and staff and customers were sent home. Clean-up was needed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Customers at the diner on Monday night were given a free meal coupon.

2. Yesterday, individuals began line-up outside the new Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Framingham in anticipation of its grand opening today at 6:30 a.m.

People pitched tents and waited in line overnight hoping to be one of the lucky 100 individuals to receive a card for a free meal at the franchise for a year.

4. Learn about Cabaret Germany at a free lecture tonight at the Memorial Building sponsored by the Framingham Public Library tonight.

Dr. John Heineman, a professor emeritus from Boston College, will analyze the role of art, music, and culture in Germany between 1919 and 1930 in a Lifelong Learner Lecture in the Blumer room at 7.

The Lifelong Learning Series is a collaboration between the Library and Framingham State University.

5. What are the flags at half-staffed?

In accordance with the Presidential proclamation issued as a mark of respect for United States Associate Justice Antonin Scalia and as ordered by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag shall be flown at half-staff at all state buildings until sunset on the day of interment.
