5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: February 24

McCarthy Elementary and Fuller Middle School parents invited to a meeting on the changes tonight.

1. There is a meeting tonight for McCarthy Elementary and Fuller Middle school parents at 7 in Fuller’s auditorium to discuss the recent changes to both school, due to a pipe bursting and flooding a wing, with 9 classrooms, at McCarthy.

2. Framingham held two Special Town Meetings Tuesday night.

During the first Special Town Meeting, members accepted money from the insurance company in regards to a lightning strike at the Memorial Building on September 3, 2015 and authorized $2.3 million to repair the main Framingham Library after an electrical explosion in October 2015.

Special Town Meeting also rejected a 2-article warrant that came from a citizens petition initiated by Town Meeting member Deborah Butler, of Precinct 7. Both articles were about the town’s Veterans Services Officer.

3. The Committee to Elect Cesar Monzon for Selectman will hold its kick-off event at the Framingham Elks from 6 to 8 tonight. The public is invited. Monzon is one of three candidates for two 3-year Selectmen seats. Election is Tuesday, March 29. He announced his candidacy in November 2015.

4. FLYERS in action:

  • Framingham High boys ice hockey team closed out its regular season with a tie against Xaverian High School. Click here for a report and photos. The Flyers end the regular season at 14-3-5, and now await a MIAA post-season tournament bid, later this week.
  • Framingham High cheerleaders and dance teams competed at the Bay State Conference Championships at Framingham High Tuesday night. Both squads finished in third place.

5.
