5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: January 29

First case of Zika virus identified in Massachusetts. Candidate for Framingham Selectman and Planning Board withdraws.

1. Voters will have fewer candidates to select from on the Town of Framingham election ballot on March 29. Yesterday, Sue Bernstein withdrew her name for both Framingham Selectmen and Framingham Planning Board.

With the removal of her name, there are now three candidates for two Selectmen seats. Incumbent Charlie Sisitsky, Town Meeting Member Deborah Butler, and Cesar Monzon.

For Framingham Planning Board, there is no longer a race, with both incumbents Victor Ortiz and Lewis Colton running unopposed.

2. Tonight, Jan. 29 is opening night for You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown by the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest. Students in grades 3-6 from MetroWest will Cbring harles Schultz’s beloved Peanuts comic strip characters to life. There are a total of three shows. Tickets are still available. 3. On the heels of a World Health Organization alert Thursday warning of up to 4 million Zika cases in the United States over the next year, Massachusetts confirmed its first case of the virus that threatens the unborn children of pregnant women.

State health officials say the infected resident is a man. He has not been identified and while his hometown is unknown, officials say he had recently traveled to an area where Zika is being transmitted in large number.

Brazil is one of those countries which the CDC has recently said pregnant women should not travel to because of the disease.

5. PLAN AHEAD: Saturday morning is Amazing Things Arts Center’s first children’s performance of 2016. Headlining is Bugaboo Revue, featuring puppeteer, actor, and musician Anna Sobel. The show features bugs and is recommended for children ages 2-8. Tickets ate $8 for adults, $5 for children.
