Abby’s House Receives Grant Funding, Continues To Serve

Abby's House in Worcester is continuing to provide shelter, affordable housing, and supportive services for women in Worcester County.

WORCESTER – Abby’s House in Worcester is continuing to provide shelter, affordable housing, and supportive services for women in Worcester County, helping them regain their footing on the path to independence. With the help of a $5,000 grant from People’s United Community Foundation, the charitable arm of People’s United Bank, Abby’s House is providing high-quality overnight shelter, affordable housing, and wrap-around advocacy & support services for approximately 500 low-income women and their families throughout the year.

In addition to their housing and shelter programs, Abby's House offers a full range of support services to women in need, including an onsite meals program, a food pantry, clothing vouchers for use in their thrift shop, transportation to medical appointments, parenting support for single-parents, financial assistance, and intensive case management that includes helping clients find, enroll in and complete GED, adult education, and/or job training programs.

“Abby’s House is doing important, invaluable work to support women at times when they are often most vulnerable and in need of help,” said Patrick Sullivan, Massachusetts President, EVP of People’s United Bank and Officer of the Foundation. “There is no limit to what the team at Abby’s House will do to make sure every woman they serve has everything they need to get back on their feet and succeed, we are honored to be able to help support them.”

Abby’s House remains committed to their mission to serve low-income women by providing safe housing and shelter for those who are homeless; a comprehensive plan to mitigate the factors leading to housing insecurity; and ensuring clients have access to supportive referrals to their network of 123+ health and social services agencies.
