FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Cochituate Rail Trail (CRT) may not officially be open for a few months, but an important part of the construction process will take place this week.

On Thursday and Friday, construction crews will begin installing decking across the new bridge spanning Route 30 near the Framingham-Natick-Wayland lines. Drivers should expect to encounter minor delays during the work, according to the Framingham Department of Public Works.

Last fall, MassDOT installed two new bridges along the trail over Routes 30 and 9. Crews are back this spring to complete the work ahead of an expected October completion of the Cochituate Rail Trail. The CRT was initially supposed to be complete by June, but work has been delayed due to "workforce availability," according to the Natick Cochituate Rail Trail Advisory Committee.

The CRT section Saxonville in Framingham to Route 30 was completed several years ago. The new section to near downtown Natick is not officially open, but is in use. In recent weeks, crews have been out along the trail adding striping and signs.
