Commonwealth Awards $81,000 Grant to Framingham Police

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Last week, the Baker-Polito Administration awarded a total of $4,050,000 in state grant funds to 15 police and fire department to help these municipalities maintain their public safety and emergency response services.

Under the Massachusetts Municipal Public Safety Staffing Grant (MUNI), Framingham was one of 10 municipalities that were awarded a grant for their police departments.

“Communities across the Commonwealth should feel confident that their police and fire [departments] are staffed adequately to do their job whenever the all for help comes in,” said Gov. Charlie Baker. “These resources will support our municipalities and first responders in keeping their communities safe.”

The Framingham Police Department was awarded a grant of $81,133 that will go towards restoring, retaining or hiring police personnel or for overtime if needed to provide adequate shift coverage to maintain appropriate staffing levels.

“The Framingham Police Department serves an important role in the safety and health of our community,” said Senator Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland). “This grant will help keep the department appropriately staffed as these hard-working men and women work to protect and serve our friends, neighbors and loved ones.”

“I want to thank the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security for awarding this grant to the Framingham Police Department allowing the department to perform to the best of its ability, with the appropriate level of personnel,” said Rep. Chris Walsh (D-Framingham).

Representative Carmine Gentile (D-Sudbury) , who represents Saxonville, said, “we greatly appreciate the Administration’s grant to the Framingham Police Department as it is probably the largest police department between Boston and Worcester. Framingham residents and visitors will be better protected.”

“This is a very helpful grant,” said Framingham Town Manager Bob Halpin to Framingham Patch last week. “The grant “will allow the (police) department to backfill the vacancies created when he added extra support to the Framingham Public Schools to add school resource officers. It is a very, very welcome bit of help from the state.”

“I appreciate the Baker-Polito Administration’s continued commitment to protecting our communities,” said Rep. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland). “By partnering with municipal leaders to enhance public safety and emergency response services, the state is promoting safer and more resilient futures for cities and towns across Massachusetts.”
