DetraPel Founder Makes Forbes 30 Under 30 List
David Zamarin founded the Framingham-based company when he was 15.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — The founder of a Framingham-based business has been named to the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 list, a compendium of young leaders around the world in fields from entertainment to tech and philanthropy.
DetraPel founder David Zamarin made the list for his accomplishments in the manufacturing sector. He founded the company at 15 while running a shoe cleaning business, discovering that the fluorochemicals he was using were toxic.
Zamarin, now 23 and a Natick resident, started DetraPel to manufacture protective coatings without PFAS-class chemicals.

He researched "DetraPel's PFAS-free coatings that repel liquids and stains while he attended the University of Pennsylvania as a part-time undergraduate student during the evenings," the Forbes write-up says. "In 2018 he demonstrated the effectiveness of DetraPel as a featured contestant on Shark Tank."
Zamarin walked away from that 2018 "Shark Take" episode with $200,000 from host Lori Greiner.

Last spring, DetraPel began manufacturing a line of environmnetally-friendly disinfectants for hospitals to use during the coronavirus pandemic. But the company also makes consumer products ranging from hand sanitizer to upholstery protector at its Blandin Avenue headquarters.
