Final Design For Framingham Dog Park May Come In Early 2021

Framingham park officials have identified a preferred location for the park, and are moving toward designing the facility.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham parks and recreation officials are getting closer to building the city's first dog park, with a preferred site picked out and plans to have a design of the park complete by early 2021.

The parks department recently unveiled four possible sites for the dog park, but department officials told the City Council on Thursday that an area at the south end of Farm Pond Park near Fountain Street is the top choice.

Parks Deputy Director Tom Begin told Councilors that the department will begin moving toward a conceptual design in December, with a potential final design ready by January. If supported by City Council, Framingham would be able to apply for a grant from the Stanton Foundation to cover about 90 percent of the cost to build the park, Begin said.

The south Farm Pond park site offers about an acre of potential land for the facility, plus access to parking near the skateboard park.

In the meantime, the city is asking residents for input on design features through a survey on the parks website.
