Flyers Burgess, Halberstadt Crowned Winners at Janiak Track Meet
More than 20 teams competed in the 2016 annual Walter "Ziggy" Janiak track meet on Saturday.

Sophomore Nate Halberstadt and freshman Ben Burgess were crowded champions at the annual Walter “Ziggy” Janiak track meet at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School on Saturday.
The annual track meet for freshmen and sophomores is named after a Naval Veteran, who was the first superintendent of that school.
More than 20 teams competed yesterday, in the indoor track meet.

Burgess won the mile in 5:08.09 minutes. The runner in second came in at 5:08.10.
Halberstadt won the 1,000 meter event in 3:01.29 minutes.

Sophomore Liam Kelly finished third in the 600 meter event in a time of 1:37.33 minutes.
The Flyers finished third in the 4X400 relay event, said head coach Chris Collins. Nick Paget, Francisco Kelley, Halberstadt and Kelly finished in 4:08 minutes.
Kelley, a sophomore, finished fourth in the 300 meter event in 42.13 seconds.
Freshman Jon Lam finished 9th in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.93 seconds.
Next up for the Flyers indoor track team is the Bay State League meet on Wednesday, said Collins.
“For many of the younger Flyers this was their last indoor meet this season, but the performances were excellent,” said Collins.
