Framingham Alpine Ski Team Concludes Its Varsity Season

Flyers Andrea Buck, Jared Brockway, and Michael Horblit have great runs in final Slalom and Giant Slalom races.

It has been a tough season for the Framingham High Alpine Ski Team due to Mother Nature.

The season began with warmer than usual temperatures and ended with last night with wind gusts of 20 to 30 miles per hour at the top of Blue Hills in Canton.

Final results for last night’s races and for the season were expected to be posted Friday morning at

Senior Andrea Buck put together two great runs to score points for the girls, as did Flyer Allison Fortin, who had a faster time on her second run.

Framingham’s Lara Williams had a personal best in Race seven, and Rebecca Martino beat her first time by a whole second.

Both freshman Casey Libuda and senior David Shapiro completed their first race successfully.

Flyer Michael Horblit was our top boy finisher scoring 10 points.

Just 5/10th of a second behind Horblit was Jared Brockway, who scored 5 points for Framingham.

Freshman Ben Fortin scored a point for Framingham too.

Flyers Matt Bower and Matt Campbell missed scoring team points by half of a second.

Slalom Competition at Blue Hills

Thursday night’s race at Blue Hills did not fare as well for the Flyers.

The course was a Slalom and the wind gusts slowed down our racers, said head coach Roni Sue Bower.

Ben Westervelt scored points for the Flyers for the first time.

Horblit and Brockway stayed on course to earn points.

Senior Buck scored 18 points for the girls.

Flyers Season

Despite the weather and snow conditions the Flyers continued to be a competitive force in the 12 team Mass Bay Ski League East, said Bower.

This season they also faced adversity as injuries also plagued the team, said Bower.

“I am very proud of the team. It is very difficult to stay focused and enthusiastic when you actually don’t do your sport until a month in to the season and then the weather, temperature and snow fall play such a huge role and make your sport day-to-day,” said Bower.

“The racers have such great attitudes that they are all grateful to get any chance to be on snow. With this type of attitude and passion our team will continue to be a success,” said Bower.
