Framingham Awarded $250K Green Grant

Framingham, MA – On Tuesday, Secretary Matthew Beaton of the Energy and Environmental

Affairs (EEA) awarded the Town of Framingham a $250,000 Green Communities Grant to fund clean energy
projects in Framingham. In total, 47 municipalities were awarded Green Community grants totaling $9,580,467, a release said.
Under the Green Communities Act, cities and towns must meet five criteria to be designated a Green Community and receive funding, a release said. The grants provide financial support for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects that further the designated communities’ clean energy goals, a release said.
The Town of Framingham was designated a Green Community in 2013 by the Department of Energy Resource (DOER), a release said.

As a Green Community, Framingham is eligible to apply for grants and other alternative funding programs. Since designation as a Green Community in 2013, Framingham has leveraged Green Communities Grant funding to complete installation of high efficiency equipment and LED lighting at Town facilities, a release said.

As a commitment to continued progress towards reduced carbon footprint as a Green Community we’ve also completed several other projects, including installation of LED streetlights throughout the community, a release said. Framingham anticipates utilizing the 2016 Green Communities Grant Funding to continue installing high efficiency equipment at locations including the Callahan Senior Center’s and the Framingham Police Headquarters, a release said.
