Ryan Reynolds Movie Filming In Framingham

The new science-fiction movie "Free Guy," starring Ryan Reynolds, will be filmed at Framingham's historic downtown bank building.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham's historic downtown bank building is being transformed into a movie set. Film crews were at the 74 Concord St. location with hydraulic lifts and a studio trailer was parked outside of the building. Signs posted nearby indicated 20th Century Fox is overseeing production.

People with knowledge of the movie said it's called "Free Guy" and stars Ryan Reynolds, according to The MetroWest Daily News. The outlet also reported that Boston’s Seaport and at least two other locations on the South Shore were used for scenes in the film.

According to a permit issued by Framingham officials last week, filming will begin May 15. The permit allows crews to temporarily use three 150-gallon diesel generators at the site.

The film is reportedly focused on a bank teller who realizes he is a character in a video game. It's marketed as a science-fiction comedy.

Crews were spotted at the bank building Friday by Downtown Framingham, Inc., which posted a photo to its Facebook page. The building was constructed in 1933 and was the main branch of Shawmut Community Bank. Most recently, it housed a TD Bank but has sat empty for several years.
