Framingham Holiday Tree — Donated By Resident — Will Go Up Friday

Framingham won't host a formal tree-lighting ceremony this year due to coronavirus, but that won't stop the holiday spirit.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Christmas won't be quite the same in 2020, but Framingham will still erect a holiday tree in front of Memorial Hall downtown to celebrate the season.

On Friday, a 30-foot Norway Spruce donated by a south Framingham resident will be raised in front of the city's main office building, signaling the start of the Christmas season. The difference this year: the city won't host a formal tree-lighting event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Framingham’s tree lighting is one of my favorite events because it connects us as a community
and brings forward the true spirit of the season," Mayor Yvonne Spicer said in a statement. "The decision to cancel the event this year was a difficult one. I’m hopeful that next year we can gather as a community and ring in the season."
