Leombruno was losing the race with just Framingham and Franklin yet to report but Framingham gave her the victory as she won her hometown 78 to 22 percent. Leombruno received 3,290 votes. Her opponent from Hopkinton 925 votes.

Leombruno won Natick 61 to 39 percent (977 to 629 votes.). But she lost Franklin, Holliston, Hopkinton, Ashland and Medway. Franklin was the last community in the district to report.

Incumbent Republican Ed McGrath of Framingham lost to Lamb by about 560 votes, with 100 percent of the precincts voting. McGrath, who also was endorsed by Gov. Baker, just like Leombruno, only won Framingham and Natick.

The Second Middlesex and Norfolk District includes Framingham, Ashland, Holliston, Hopkinton, parts of Natick, parts of Franklin, and Medway.

“I want to thank all of our friends and supporters for the hard work and dedication for your support in helping us move the Governor’s agenda forward,” said Leombruno to Framingham Patch. “Although Ed will not be with me on the State Committee, I know he will continue to work by my side in growing the grassroots of the Mass GOP.”

“This is a victory for the grassroots,” said Lamb to Framingham Patch. “Once again it shows grassroots is more important than money. I look forward to building a vibrant GOP.”

Lamb announced he had won to his supporters on his Facebook page at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday.

“I would like to thank the voters of the Second Middlesex Norfolk district for your votes. As your State Committee Man I vow to continue growing the Republican Party and working to elect Republicans up and down the ticket,” wrote Lamb. “I want to thank all the volunteers who spent endless hours campaigning, especially my manager Desiree. Desiree is the MassGOP’s secret weapon, and a dear dear friend.”

Lamb also thanked his opponent.

“We all need to thank Ed McGrath for his years of service to the Republican Party, not just his 12 years on the State Committee but as a lifetime commitment. I know Ed will continue to give his all to the party,” wrote Lamb.

““On a personal note I want to thank Ed McGrath for all that he’s done, and for being such a dedicated and conscientious State Committeeman for our district,” said Leombruno to Framingham Patch. “He will be greatly missed throughout the district.”

Lamb also wrote “Congratulations to Janet Leombruno on your win, I look forward to working side by side with you.”
