Halberstadt Sets Flyers Pentathlon Record

Framingham High senior Paul Halberstadt qualified for the nationals in the Pentathlon.

Framingham High senior Paul Halberstadt has qualified for nationals in the pentathlon, said Framingham High indoor track coach Chris Collins.

Halberstadt finished second at the Massachusetts Pentathlon Meet, out of 124 athletes.

His 3,264 points sets a Framingham High indoor record, said Collins.

Halberstadt, a captain on the indoor track team, now holds both the indoor and outdoor pentathlon record for Framingham Highl, said Collins.

A pentathlon consists of a long jump, shot put, hurdles, high jump, and 1000-meter race.

Collins said the Flyers had a “very successful night” at the state pentathlon meet.

Besides Halberstadt, senior Ben Kirchman and Flyer Matt Kimmelstiel also competed.

“Unfortunately the night also saw Matt go down with a high-ankle sprain after setting personal bests in his first three events,” said Collins. “A bad plant foot in the high jump ended his night.”

Collins said Kirchman had several personal records.
