Hoops and Homework Unveils New Website

The free after-school program that serves at-risk students has a fundraiser at La Cantina restaurant on Thursday, April 7.

"It is more kid-friendly and parent-friendly," said Hoops & Homework founder Herb Chasan, a Town Meeting member in Framingham.

Chasan encouraged his fellow Town Meeting members to approve an after-school program to help at-risk students in Framingham. Recently, the program celebrated its third anniversary.

The program provides academically enriching activities for children, helping to close the opportunity gap between higher-income and lower-income families.

The new website was created by "our staff leader at Interfaith, Sharon Ward," said Chasan. "We will be constantly updating it and making improvements."

And in a few weeks, Hoops & Homework will be holding a fundraiser at La Cantina Restaurant on Route 135 in Framingham on Thursday, April 7.

Tickets are $50 for pizza and appetizers. Cash bar. The fundraiser is from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

"The highlight of the evening will be a short video showing some of our kids, parents, staff and local dignitaries who support the program," said Chasan.

There will be a short talent show by the Hoops & Homework students, added Chasan.

"Every penny of fundraising goes directly to serve the kids: Salaries of our dedicated staff, snacks, supplies, special educational and enrichment programs and insurance. No funds go for administration of the program," said Chasan.

Hoops and Homework is a 501c3 non profit charity.

Hoops and Homework serves kids in the Waverly St. and Beaver St. area at the Cochituate Homes complex and the Framingham Housing Authority Complex.

"We serve the most disadvantaged kids in town every day from 3 to 6 p.m.," said Chasan.
