IMAGE GALLERY: Flyers, Hawks Skate to a 2-2 Tie

The Framingham High boys ice hockey team end the regular season at 14-3-5, and now await a MIAA post-season tournament bid.

The Framingham Flyers boys hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against Xaverian Brothers High School Tuesday night in a hard fought game in Foxboro.

The Flyers finish the regular season at 14-3-5, and now await the MIAA state tournament selection seeding on Saturday.

Xaverian came out strong in the first period but the Flyers withstood the Hawks constant pressure for a 0-0 tie at the end of the period.

Despite a better start to the second period, the Flyers fell behind 1-0 at the 12:00 minute on a strong move to the slot by a Xaverian player scoring from the top of the face off circles.

The Flyers battled back and with a minute left in the 2nd period the Flyers got an important tying goal. Flyer forwards Austan Bellefeuille and Ben Stefanini won a puck battle behind the Hawk net to the goalie’s right. Stefanini chipped the puck to Bellefeuille who slid a pass to Tyler Anes in the slot for a quick one timer along the ice to tie the game at 1-1.

The middle period ended 1-1.

The Flyers opened the third period strong and at the 8:33 mark took the lead on a Nathan Nichols goal. The Flyers won the puck off of a face-off to the left of the Hawks goalie and moved the puck to the from of the net where Nichols put home the loose puck. Tyler Anes and Jamie Brigham assisted on the goal.

With 4:43 left in the game the Hawks pressured the Flyers deep in their zone and scored off a shot from the left wing to tie the game.

Flyer goalie Dominic Schiappa played well in net making a number of quality saves.
