Major Golf Retailer Planning Framingham Location

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A new golf superstore will fill a vacant site at Shoppers World in Framingham, according to a proposal submitted recently to the Planning Board.

Golf Galaxy, a subsidiary of Dick's Sporting Goods, would move into a slot on the northeast side Shoppers World formerly home to a Babies R Us. The company has applied for a permit to erect a sign outside the store, and is hiring for positions at the new store.

The Framingham Golf Galaxy would be the company's third location in Massachusetts after Reading and Burlington — and would compete with another major golf retail store that just opened in Natick.

A PGA TOUR Superstore opened in January at 1398 Worcester Road — the former home of a Michaels store that moved to Shoppers World in Framingham in November, taking the place of an A.C. Moore store.

Shoppers World will also soon welcome a Hot Table panini restaurant, the Springfield-based chain's most eastern location in the state. That eatery will open on the southeast side of the plaza between Visionworks and Chipotle.
