Man Accused of Throwing Coffee Mugs at Girlfriend
The man's lawyer said the woman is making the allegations to cover up her own crimes, according to reports.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - A Framingham man was accused of assaulting his girlfriend and throwing coffee mugs at her on multiple occasions but his lawyer said she is just trying to cover up her own crimes, Wicked Local reported.
Christian Rodriguez Mercado's lawyer said in Framingham District Court Monday that the accused was about to break up with his girlfriend when she told police he assaulted her, Wicked Local reported.
Police went to Mercado's apartment on Sunday after a report of possible domestic violence, Wicked Local reported. When police arrived they found Mercado's girlfriend visibly shaking, Wicked Local reported.

Mercado's girlfriend told police he had thrown a coffee mug at her and missed. She said Mercado also threw a mug at her while she was driving on April 11, striking her in the head and leaving her bruised, Wicked Local reported.
Mercado's lawyer said he was about to break up with his girlfriend on Sunday for taking his Labor Ready card and withdrawing money without permission. He said the woman was making the allegations to get Mercado in trouble, Wicked Local reported.

Mercado was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of intimidation of a witness for ordering his girlfriend not to drive to the police station after hitting her with the coffee cup and calling her daughter from his jail cell despite being told not to do so, Wicked Local reported.
The judge ordered Mercado to be held on $1,000 bail. He will appear in court on May 23 for a pretrial conference, Wicked Local reported.
