Mass Pike Bus Fire: 45 Passengers Escape Unharmed

The Mass Pike was closed for 30 minutes and one lane for 90 minutes. State Police investigating.

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA - Massachusetts State Police Troopers from the Weston barracks and firefighters from Southborough responded to a bus fire on the Massachusetts Turnpike westbound at 2:20 p.m. yesterday, March 2.

The bus fire was extinguished by Southborough Fire with assistance from Westborough and Hopkinton fire departments using foam.

All 45 passengers and the driver were transported to the Westborough rest area using a school bus provided by Ashland Police department.

No passengers were injured.

The bus is operated by SOE TOUR Inc.

The Massachusetts Turnpike west bound was closed for half an hour while the fire was extinguished. All lanes were opened by 3:45 p.m. resulting in a partial closure for 90 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Mass State Police Wednesday night.
