Memorial Day in Framingham: What You Need To Know
Patch has all the details on Memorial Day Ceremonies, plus what's open and closed on the May 27th holiday.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day, and the city has several events scheduled. Leading up to the holiday itself is a two-day soccer tournament hosted by the Framingham United Soccer Club. The 38th annual Memorial Day Classic will be May 25 and 26 for kids registered on teams U8 through U14. The tournaments will be held on multiple fields including the Merchant Field, Galvani/Fuller Field and the High School field.
On Monday morning, a Memorial Day cemetery bus tour will be held. Starting at 8 a.m. the tour will begin with the Memorial Building and make stops at the Old Burial Ground, Edgell Road Cemetery, Edwards Cemetery and others, in honor of fallen military veterans. Each location will feature remembrances, prayers, honor guard rifle salute, and patriotic music. The tour is free and will loop back around to the memorial building.
The tour will be followed by a Memorial Day program in Nevins Hall of the Memorial Building, located at 150 Concord Street. The program will begin at 11 a.m. and 12 Massachusetts medals of liberty will be given to the families of Framingham soldiers who were killed in action. Mayor Yvonne Spicer will make remarks and the guest speaker is Michael Burns – Command Sergeant Major of 1-181st Infantry Regiment and current Framingham Firefighter.

What's Open And Closed On Memorial Day?
The holiday also means government offices and some businesses will be closed. Before you head out, check our list of what's open and closed on the holiday
- Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
- Buses: No fixed route or commuter shuttle service
- Supermarkets: Open
- Convenience stores: Open
- Bars: Open
- Banks: Closed
- Municipal Offices: Closed
- Libraries, see above: Closed (Closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday)
- Schools: Closed
- Mail: Express delivery only
- Trash/recycling collection: Delayed one day. Monday pickup on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, etc., ending with Friday pickup on Saturday.
