My name is Dawn Federman. Our mom, Mickey Federman, a lifelong resident of Framingham for over 50 years, attended New England Conservatory of Music in the 1950’s and studied at the Boston Conservatory for Music as well, when she was 16 years old. She had a zest for life and a real passion for music, specifically classical music. She continued pursuing her passion for music thereafter teaching private piano lessons for about 12 years to many children from Framingham and the surrounding areas, between the ages of 5 and 16 years old. Her pupils loved hearing her play Chopin's Polonaise and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto. Every year she would hold a private recital in her home for all the students that she had taught that year. Everyone would crowd into the living room of our home to hear their children play. She was so proud of all her pupils and how much they had learned over such a short time, especially the very young ones.
My brother Scott and I have dedicated mom’s pride possession, her baby grand piano, to the Framingham High School Music Department, with the help and support of Music Director, Andy Jasinski and Ellen Dubick, Secretary of Framingham Public Schools. It is our joy to see the students at FHS receive as much enjoyment and pleasure out of playing and practicing on mom's piano as she did over the years. She played the piano every day and this was truly the best therapy for her, having lived with the many challenges from Crohn’s disease most of her life. Music was comforting and relaxing to her and truly the best medicine. Mom would be extremely proud and honored today knowing that her prize possession, which she treasured so much, is being displayed at FHS and played by some of the most rising and talented musicians in the school.
Thank you Andy, Ellen and Framingham High School for keeping our mom’s legacy alive. It means so much to our family and is quite the honor!
