New Spring MBTA Commuter Rail Schedules Now In Effect
Commuters along the Framingham-Worcester line will see more trains during midday hours starting April 5.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — New train schedules along the MBTA's Framingham-Worcester line went into effect Monday, offering more midday trips and trains arriving at more regular intervals.
Commuters departing from main stations like Worcester and Framingham can expect trains at least every hour between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Trains after 9 p.m. will also still be available — the MBTA had wanted to cut late-night trains to save money.
But the biggest change along the Framingham-Worcester line will be the addition of trains during the midday hours. For example, commuters in Framingham will see inbound trains every hour between the morning and evening rush. Outbound trains will also run hourly during midday hours.

Farther east, commuters in Newton will see a change with buses replacing morning trains. The Newtonville, West Newton and Auburndale stations will be served by a "railbus" during the morning rush hour.
Commuter rail trips are still way down compared to before the pandemic. The latest data from MassDOT showed about 368,000 daily commuter rail trips in November across the entire system. In February 2020, there were about 1.2 million daily trips.
