Newton North Tigers Sprint Past Flyers 68-32

Newton North High is one of the powerhouse teams in the Bay State Conference on the track.
Yesterday, the Framingham High boys track team lost to the Tigers 68-32.
Head Coach Chris Collins said despite the loss, the team scored several personal best times and personal records.

Senior captain Paul Halberstadt led the Flyers scoring 11 of the 32 points, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston Thursday.
Halberstadt won the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 7-inches.

Halberstadt, had a personal best in the 55 hurdles, finished second to his teammate at 8.52 seconds, said Collins.
And he finished second in the long jump event at 18-feet, 4.5-inches.
Senior captain Mike McDonald won the mile in 4:33.98 minutes and qualified for the state meet.
Senior Ben Kirchman won the 55 hurdles in 8.30 seconds to qualify for the state meet.
The Flyers won the 4X200 relay in a personal best time of 1:38.98 minutes, said Collins. On the relay was senior Chris Barone, junior Matt Kimmelstiel 11th, junior Chigozie Nna, and senior Cameron Klein.
Barone finished second in the 600 with a time of 1:30.95 minutes.
“Unfortunately, he lost the race by .01 seconds,” said Collins.
Junior Alex Lowry scored a third place finish in the 1000 event, with a personal record of 2:48.56 minutes, said Collins.
Junior Nyindu Kabungu, Nyindu finished third in the high jump for the Flyers.
Collins said sophomore Nathan Halberstadt has dropped 9 seconds from his 1000 in just the past two weeks. He ran a 2:51.20 minute time yesterday.
Ben Burgess had “outstanding personal best and a great freshman time” in the mile race at 4:51.08 minutes, said Collins.
