Local police, Massachusetts State Police, and the FBI will provide an update on the string of bomb threats at local schools in the Commonwealth at an event Friday, Feb. 5 at Massachusetts State Police headquarters in Framingham.

Law enforcement, fire services, and education officials will also attend the morning event.

Besides an update on the investigation, Sergeant William Qualls of the State Police Bomb Squad will discuss how his unit responds to bomb threats.

Participants at the media event on Friday will include Acting State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey; State Police Deputy Superintendent Francis Hughes; FBI Boston Division Assistant Special Agent in Charge Pete Kowenhoven; Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes, president of the Massachusetts Major City Chiefs Association and a board member of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association; and Mr. Paul Andrews, director of government services for the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents.

Cities and towns in Massachusetts that have had bomb threats at their schools since the start of the year include Arlington, Boston, Billerica, Bourne, Falmouth, Groton, Kingston, Milton, Milford, Newton, Plymouth, Salisbury, Swampscott, Taunton, Tewksbury, Wakefield, Waltham, Wayland, Westford and Weymouth.
