I have served as a Library Trustee since 2000. I was Chair of the Board in 2006 when the Board appointed Mark Contois Director of the Library. The day he was appointed marked a turning point for the Library.

The Trustees and Mark wanted to make the Library, not just a place to take out books, but a gathering place. A place to go to a concert, a film, or a lecture. A place to socialize, to be exposed to new ideas and to learn new technologies.

We also wanted the Library to offer programs when people were available to attend, specifically on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. I’m very pleased that the Framingham Public Library is one of the few Libraries in the Commonwealth to have programs on Friday evenings. Our Sunday afternoon concerts have attracted world class musicians to Framingham.

Since 2010, our Lifelong Learning programs with Framingham State University have brought people from the MetroWest area and beyond to the Library.

I am excited that soon the new McAuliffe Library will enable the Library to expand it’s children’s programming, young adult programming and it’s wonderful and innovative Homework Center.

The success of these programs is the result of the support from the Friends of the Framingham Library, members of our Adult Program Committee, a wonderful hard working staff and the continuing support from Framingham residents.

I hope that on March 29th you will give me one of your votes for Library Trustee.
