Sam Alves Concert this Saturday

Sam Alves, winner of The Voice, will unite us with classic and original hits at 7 pm on 9/12 at facebook.com/downtownframingham/live

On Saturday, September 12, award-winning Universal Music recording artist and winner of The Voice Brazil, Sam Alves, will perform live to heighten support for the inaugural Jack’s Abby / DFI Spirit of Downtown Virtual 5K Run/Walk. The virtual concert airs from 7 pm to 8:30 pm on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/DowntownFramingham/live/

Sam Alves was selected to perform based on his track-record of bringing together people of different cultures. Sam is a bilingual artist who can perform in Portuguese or English, hyping up audiences with hits from several genres, including pop, rhythm and blues, and folk. Sam truly evokes the inclusive, resilient spirit of downtown Framingham. When Sam was only two days old, he was found abandoned in a shoe box on a doorstep in Fortaleza, Ceará. When Sam was four years old, his adopted parents moved with him to Massachusetts. Sam’s father was a pastor and his mother performed cleaning services. Sam began learning how to sing while in church, and his spirit of caring took him back to Brazil to serve as a missionary in 2003. Sam returned to America following his mission trip, now serving as a worship leader at church.

Sam wanted to heal others, and so he began his studying pre-med at Worcester State University. Yet, Sam’s yearning to perform forced him to switch majors to focus on music. Sam further honed his talents by participating in the Worcester State University Chorale.

In 2013, Sam auditioned for The Voice in the United States and Brazil. Although his first audition in the United States didn’t generate any chair turns from the judges, his second audition for The Voice Brasil caused all four judges to hit their buzzers and turn around. Sam went on to win The Voice Brazil in 2013. Following this big win, Sam completed tours in 2014 and 2015. Sam’s first album reached the top of the iTunes charts in 2014.

In 2018, Sam publicly came out as gay, sharing that he had to live his own truth and identify. Despite his religious upbringing, Sam’s statement on his identity was warmly received. Sam courageously came out to support others who were struggling with their own identity.

Today, Sam has accumulated a powerful social media presence with more than 2 million Facebook fans, known as “samurais”.
