SLIDESHOW: Flyers Sit In First Place, After Besting Braintree
The Framingham High boys ice hockey team travelled to Braintree and came away with a 2-1 win over the Wamps Wednesday.
The Framingham Flyers defeated Braintree 2-1, to take a 3-point first place lead in the Bay State League’s Carey Division.
It was a battle of two one-loss teams at Randolph’s Zapustas Arena Wednesday night
The win was the Flyers 10th this season in the Bay State.

The ice hockey team has an overall record of 11-1-4, under head coach Paul Spear.
The Flyers opened the scoring with 12:34 left in the first period when Austan Bellefeuille took a pass in the neutral zone from defenseman Sam Barnett. He turned up ice down the right wing, pivoted to the outside of the Braintree defenseman and ripped a snap shot in the top left corner over the goalie’s right shoulder.

The first period finished 1-0 Flyers.
Braintree came out strong in the second period and capitalized at the end of a power of shot from the right wing side to tie the game at 1-1 with 11:11 left in the period.
Framingham goaltender Owen Parker made several big saves, as the Wamps forecheck pressured the Flyers in their end.
With the score 1-1 at the end of the middle period, the Flyers came out roaring in the final period, generating a number of good scoring chances early in the period.
With 4:35 left in the third period forward Scott Swennes picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated the puck down the left wing into the Wamps zone.
With the Flyers on the power play Swennes move to the middle of the ice and sniped a wrist shot past the goalie’s right blocker, hitting the post, deflecting back into the goaltender and into the net.
The Flyers held off the Wamps for the remainder of the period for a 2-1 win.
The Framingham High boys ice hockey team hosts the Tigers of Newton North Saturday at Loring Arena. It is senior night for the Flyers, as Class of 2016 hockey players and their parents will be recognized. The puck is scheduled to drop at 5:10 p.m.
