Teen Wanted in UMass Assault Turns Himself In

A Framingham teen, 19 turned himself into Framingham Police on Friday afternoon, after an arrest warrant was issued.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - A Framingham teenager wanted in the connection to Thursday night’s UMass Amherst assault that prompted a shelter-in-place order has turned himself in to police.

William McKeown, 19, turned himself in, said Framingham Police Lt. Stephen Cronin. He was wanted for armed robbery, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

An arrest warrant was issued for him early Friday morning.

The vehicle McKeown and another suspect left the UMass campus in was found in Framingham Thursday night, near Water and Hemenway Streets, said Cronin.

Police searched two residences in the Nobscot neighborhood of Framingham Thursday night.

UMass instituted a shelter-in-place Thursday night after two men with a gun assaulted a student on campus, officials said.

A handgun was shown, but not fired, the school said.

The student was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton with minor injuries that included a head laceration, UMass Police Chief Tyrone Parham said in a press conference Thursday night. He was treated and released.
