UPDATED: Voting Problems at Walsh Middle on Tuesday

Precincts 5 and 6 vote at Walsh Middle School.

Several voters complained there was no place to park to vote at Walsh Middle School in Framingham on Tuesday, March 1.

Walsh Middle School is where voters from Precincts 5 and 6 vote.

Although there was no school for Framingham Public School students on the presidential primary, the public school district held a professional development day workshop for teachers and staff at Walsh Middle School, leaving almost no parking spaces for voters early Tuesday morning.

Framingham's Town Clerk Valerie Mulvey in 2015 had recommended that the Framingham Public Schools not be open for the Presidential Primary on March 1, 2016 and the Presidential election in November, due to expected high voter turnout and the fact that seven of the district’s schools are polling places.

By mid-afternoon, teachers and staff attending the professional development workshops at Walsh Middle School had moved their vehicles to Dunning Elementary School, which is within walking distance to Walsh Middle. That freed up parking for registered voters.

Precinct 5 had 53 percent of its registered voters cast a vote on Tuesday - 1,385 voters unofficially.

Precinct 6 had 46 percent of its registered voters cast a vote on Tuesday - 1,208 voters unofficially.

Neither Fuller Middle or Cameron Middle schools in Framingham are polling places.

Framingham High School is also not a polling place for the Town of Framingham.

In 2013, Framingham changed its polling places in Precincts 1, 8 and 9, and moved two of the polling places out of public schools. The change was needed to solve safety, traffic, and parking problems at both Hemenway Elementary and McCarthy Elementary Schools, Town Clerk Valerie Mulvey said back in 2013.

Precinct 1 was at Hemenway Elementary and was moved to then the King Administration Building. It is now King Elementary School.

Precinct 9 was the King Administration Building and voters now vote at the Wesley United Methodist Church hall at 80 Beacon Street.

Precinct 8 voters moved from McCarthy Elementary to Wesley United Methodist Church in 2013, as well.

Walsh became the polling place for voters in Precincts 5 and 6 in 2010.
