Wildcats Defeat Lady Flyers on the Track

Framingham sophomore Zoie Carter won the 300-meter event and shot putter Ayana McKay qualified for the state meet.

The Framingham High girls idoor track team competed against the Wildcats of Weymouth Thursday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston and lost.

The Flyers are now 1-3 on the season.

Sophomore Zoie Carter won the 300-meter race for Framingham in a state-qualifying time of 44.58 seconds.

Senior captain Ayana McKay finished in second place in the shot put. Her throw of 30 feet qualified for her state the state meet, said head coach Chris Collins.

Senior captain Hilda Kusi, senior captain Olivia Rothenberg, and freshman Leche Small-Brown (swept the 55-meter dash, said Collins. Their times were 7.68 seconds, 7.78 seconds and 7.84 seconds.

The 4x200 relay team won in a time of 1:50.0 minutes, a state-qualifying time.

Without spikes this was a great performance in victory from Rothenberg, Small-Brown, Carter and Jenny Ribeiro, said Collins.

Senior captain Lucy Matzilivech finished second in the mile, with a time of 5:40.53 minutes.

Sophomore Michelle Hom finished second in the 55-hurdles in 10.21 seconds. She continues to get better with every meet, said Collins.

Rising star Laura Walkup, a freshman, finished second in the high jump, with a leap of 4-feet, 6-inches, said Collins.

Sophomore Sophie Meltzer finished second in the long jump at 14-feet, 5-inches.

Next up for the Flyers is a eet against Newton North on Thursday, January 21.
