Winter Street Bridge Closes Tuesday, Beginning of Demolition Project

After the demolition, the contractor will start work on a new four lane, single span bridge.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Mass. Department of Transportation says its contractor starts work Tuesday. The bridge will reopen this time next year.

Per MassDOT:

MassDOT’s contractor will close the Winter Street Bridge, which carries traffic over the railroad in Framingham, on Tuesday, December 20 at 7 a.m. The bridge will close in order for the contractor to begin demolition work required as part of the bridge replacement project. Following the demolition, the contractor will begin constructing a new four lane, single span bridge.
During the work, traffic will be directed to follow the detour signage in place and utilize Fountain Street and Union Street in Ashland and Waverly Street and Fountain Street in Framingham. Pedestrian traffic over the railroad will be maintained throughout the vehicular detour.
The bridge is scheduled to reopen in late 2017, with final project completion anticipated by the end of 2017.
