4. Crews work to restore Jewish cemetery: Have you seen work at the Hebrew Charitable Burial Ground on Lebanon Street? The historical cemetery is undergoing a restoration courtesy of the Jewish Cemetery Association of Massachusetts.

5. This day in Malden history: A few interesting ones for today, July 25:

  • 1881: The Boston Rubber Shoe Co. factory - founded by Malden’s first mayor, Elisha Converse - suffers a fire resulting in $70,000 worth of damages (about $1.6 million in 2013 dollars).

  • 1895: Ward 2 residents present a petition with over 1,500 signatures to the West End Railroad Company, requesting they build a trolley line down Highland Avenue.

  • 1909: Residents reported five separate late-night burglaries in the city. Four victims woke up to money missing from their pants' pockets and signs of forced entry into their home. One shopkeeper reported several tools stolen from his store.

    No victims saw or heard anything suspicious the night before.

  • 1996: Police SWAT teams closed streets and surrounded a home where two teenage fugitives from Alabama were reportedly hiding from multiple homicide charges. Ultimately, investigators came up empty-handed. 

    "We had some good information that the defendants were in this house,” Alabama prosecutor Robert Owens told the Boston Herald at the time. “...Either we were late or they left early,"
