Amy Friedman has announced her candidacy to represent the residents of Ward 8 on the City Council. Amy and her husband have raised a blended family of nine children, two of whom are still at home and attend the Malden Public Schools. She was an attorney for 25 years before retiring in 2014. She is a caregiver, homemaker, and volunteer in Malden. Amy is committed to make Malden a life-long home for her family and the residents of Ward 8.

Amy feels it is important that all citizens are heard when it comes to what they need from their government and deserve a voice when it comes to what they want their community to look like. She recognizes the diversity of the community but also believes that its residents have an obvious common goal--to live in a welcoming, beautiful and efficiently run City. She wants to bring people together to achieve that common goal. Amy acknowledges the need to spend Malden's resources efficiently and wisely. She believes a Councillor should listen to their constituents about how its resources should be spent and ensure accountability.

The citizens of Malden should have easy access to information about what the administration is doing, why it is taking certain actions, and how agreed-upon goals are being accomplished. Malden residents deserve open, transparent government. Amy will use her education and experience in the law to assure the City is compliant in the areas of accessibility to public records, open governing, zoning, civil rights, and other issues that come before the Council.
