Police: Reported Hostage Situation was Exaggerated

Police rushed to the scene of "a man with a gun" at Wyeth Street Monday night, though no hostages were found. Police later recovered an illegally possessed gun at the property and made three arrests.

Malden police responded to a possible hostage situation on Wyeth Street Monday night, though the report was later determined to be unfounded.

Captain John Amirault described the incident as a serious domestic assault, but not a stand-off.

"Sometimes callers exaggerate what is going on to get a quicker police response," he wrote via email.

Three were arrested: one for alleged disorderly conduct, another for alleged domestic assault and battery and a third for alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

Their names have not yet been released by the department

The home was the same location police arrested a man allegedly involved in last year's Sun Kong shooting.

The suspect reportedly did not live there.
