City Forgoes At-Large Preliminary Election
The move will likely save taxpayers about $30,000, City Clerk Karen Anderson said.

Residents will have one less election to worry about this busy year, after the city council voted 8-0 to cancel a city-wide preliminary election for its at-large seats Tuesday.Â
The preliminary election, originally scheduled for Sept. 17, would reduce the number of candidates for the council's three open at-large seats from seven to six - hardly worth the estimated $30,000 price tag, Councillor David D'arcangelo argued.Â
Now those seven candidates will vie for the open seats during the Nov. 5 general election, pending likely approval by the state legislature.Â
