MALDEN, MA — A longtime Malden business recently shut its doors following its owner's retirement. Mayor Gary Christenson congratulated Gabby's Barber Shop owner John Angelo on his nearly 60 years of business.

The shop initially opened on Dartmouth Street, later relocating to the corner of Pleasant and Florence streets. When construction of the former City Hall building began on Pleasant Street in the 1970s, the shop moved to its final location at 252 Highland Ave.

In addition to providing exceptional barber service, Gabby's became a meeting place for many in the Edgeworth neighborhood.
