Doctors Express Malden Names Family Physician Dr. Michael Lowney Medical Director

Local Physician to Lead Growing Urgent Care Practice

Doctors Express Malden announced today Dr. Michael Lowney of Walpole, MA, a board certified family physician, to serve as the center’s medical director and lead physician. Dr. Lowney will head a team of four board certified doctors serving local urgent care needs at the clinic. The clinic also announced Dr. Marie Constant, MPH will serve as a full-time physician.

For the past 30 years, Dr. Michael Lowney has cared for patients at his family medicine private practice West Roxbury. He was drawn to urgent care because of its efficiency and ability to take the time needed with patients. “I am excited to lead a team focused on meeting immediate patient needs. I know this team is dedicated to providing high-quality and convenient care,” said Lowney.

Dr. Lowney completed his medical degree at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, M.E. where he is currently an adjunct professor. He is a past board of directors’ member at the Massachusetts Osteopathic Society and a current Clinical Instructor for UMass Medical School.

“We are thrilled to bring Dr. Lowney’s compassion, exceptional care to our community and his medical expertise to our team” said Scott Sheridan, Doctors Express center director, “As we continue to grow to meet the needs of Malden and surrounding communities, we are committed to providing the highest quality in care.”

Also joining Doctors Express full time is Dr. Marie Constant, MPH. She is a board-certified family physician and a public health practitioner. She is a clinical instructor at Boston University School of Medicine. Before joining Doctors Express, Dr. Constant was a family physician at North Shore Community Health, a federally qualified health center. There, she implemented a two-year Kraft Center for Community Health quality improvement project for Latino patients with diabetes. She will bring “extensive expertise, community health knowledge and warm bedside manner to Doctors Express patients,” said Sheridan.

In 2010, Dr. Constant graduated from the family residency program at St-Joseph Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York and furthered her education with a Master’s Degree in Public Health from UMass Amherst in May 2014. She is fluent in Haitian Creole, French, English and Spanish.

The addition of Dr. Michael Lowney and Dr. Marie Constant strengthen Doctors Express’ ability to deliver high-quality care to Malden and surrounding communities. Today in the Boston area, patients wait an average of 66 days to see a family doctor. For Malden area residents, patients spend on average 2.8 hours in the emergency room till they are treated and discharged. Among the patients admitted, the additional time spent waiting before being taken to their room is on average 2.3 hours.[1]

To meet this demand, there has been a rise in urgent care clinics. Urgent care providers treat conditions such as lacerations requiring stiches, broken bones, flu and strep throat and x-rays. By focusing on care needing immediate attention but is not life-threatening, urgent care allows E.R.’s to serve true emergencies. Since opening in 2014, Doctors Express Malden has treated more 5,200 patients. Average patient discharge time is under one hour.
