Encore Casino Lays Off 385 Workers
The casino announced Monday it is letting go of hundreds of furloughed workers, as it does not expect the jobs will return this year.

EVERETT, MA — Encore Boston Harbor is laying off hundreds of workers who were previously furloughed, the casino announced Monday. A total of 385 people will be laid off, a spokesperson wrote in an email to Patch.
The company does not expect the jobs will return this year, though employees can retain their seniority if they are rehired within 90 days. The layoffs take effect Sept. 1.
"With continued efforts from the State to minimize the spread of COVID-19, Encore Boston Harbor continues to operate with a significantly reduced capacity in all parts of our resort," an Encore spokesperson said in a statement.

The casino initially paid its employees from its closure March 15 through the end of May, but this plan proved unsustainable. After costing its parent company Wynn Resorts $220 million, the casino furloughed about 10 percent of its workforce June 1.
There are 2,700 people currently working at the resort and 915 on furlough, the Boston Globe reported.
