Fatal Pedestrian Accident Under Investigation in Malden

A fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Thursday morning on Broadway is currently under investigation by officials, according to Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis.

Shortly after 6 a.m. Dec. 26, rescue crews responded to the area of 61 Broadway on a report of a car that struck a pedestrian, according to Molis. 

The victim, who was taken to an area hospital, was a woman in her late 20s, according to Molis. It's unclear if the victim was dead at the scene or succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, as police declined to comment.

Police have not identified the victim. 

Police declined to comment if drugs, alcohol, speeding, texting or other variables played a role in the accident while the incident is under investigation.

Malden Police, State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office are currently handling the investigation, according to Molis. 

As of 5:30 p.m., no one had been arrested and charged following the accident, according to Molis.
