Police and fire investigators are looking into a "suspicious" fire that broke out at a parking garage Monday night in Malden.

At about 7:20 p.m. Oct. 28, police and firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a two-story parking garage located at the corner of Summer Street and Mountain Avenue after someone pulled a fire box, according to Deputy Fire Chief Leonard Dunn III.

"Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the (first) floor of the parking garage, (and) inside they found two motor vehicles on fire, which were eventually destroyed by the fire, with smoke and heat damage to a good portion of the garage ceiling," Dunn said.

Fire Lt. Kevin Halpin is serving as the lead investigator of the "suspicious" fire, Dunn said. Halpin, along with police detectives, were working on the case on Tuesday, he added.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the cause of the fire hadn't been determined, according to Dunn.
